Our Topic Blocks
We offer comprehensive support aligned with the Australian Curriculum across three core disciplines:
📊 Data Interpretation & Graphs (4 Sessions)
- Graphs & Data Interpretation:
Interpreting bar graphs, line graphs, stacked graphs, and tables. Identifying trends (increase, decrease, no change), and reading values correctly from uneven scales. Mastering true / false / impossible to determine questions. - True & False Statements:
Reading only what the data shows, spotting absolute language (“all”, “always”, “none”), and recognising when an answer is truly impossible to determine (2 Sessions). - Group Frequency Tables:
Learning how to read class intervals, finding totals and percentages, estimating the mean, and answering complex interpretation questions.
% Percentages, Ratios & Averages (4 Sessions)
- Percentages:
Calculating percentage of an amount, percentage increase/decrease, and calculator-friendly strategies to save time during the exam. Applied to real-life scenarios like prices, population change, and test scores. - Averages (Mean, Median, Mode & Range):
Choosing the correct average, understanding how outliers affect the mean, and calculating range correctly (a frequent ACER trap!). Applied to tables, graphs, and true/false statements. - Ratio:
Mastering ratio tables, word problems, and real-life educational contexts (e.g., students, teachers, resources).
📐 Measurement, Time & Geometry (4 Sessions)
- Calendar & Date Questions:
Working out dates across months, counting days forward or backward, identifying weekdays, and interpreting complex schedules and timetables. - Maps & Directions:
Compass directions (N, S, E, W, NE, NW, SE, SW), interpreting simple maps, following step-by-step directions, and developing distance/scale awareness. - Conversions Between Units:
Seamlessly converting metres ↔ kilometres, grams ↔ kilograms, millilitres ↔ litres, and performing time conversions.
🔢 The Non-calculator Section
- Core Mental Maths:
Breaking numbers down, advanced mental maths strategies, and using estimation to quickly check answers for percentages and large numbers. - Division & Multiplication:
Learning clean, reliable methods to avoid silly arithmetic errors and check answers quickly. - Acres & Hectares:
Understanding the relationship between hectares and square metres, recognising conversion traps, and solving real-life land measurement questions. - Fractions:
Finding the fraction of an amount, working with equivalent fractions, and combining fractions with worded contexts.
✍ Exam Revision & Strategy
- Mastering the ACER Format:
Recognising specific question types, decoding tricky ACER wording, and practising exam-style questions under expert guidance and timed conditions.
